Divide Independent School District has been educating children in western Kerr County since 1882, when the Divide Common School District was first established. For more than 140 years, our school has served the ranching families of the Divide, adapting and moving with the community in its early years before settling into its permanent home. Our historic schoolhouse opened in 1936, made possible through the efforts of Fred "Barney" Klein, who secured funding to serve families settling along the newly constructed State Highway 41. That original building still houses our classrooms today, a living piece of Texas history where students learn every school day. While often described as one of the last one room schoolhouses in America, our original building now holds two classrooms, with additional space serving our youngest learners.

Divide ISD is one of the smallest school districts in Texas, and we consider that our greatest strength. Divide ISD is one of the smallest school districts in Texas, and we consider that our greatest strength. Located at 120 Divide School Road in Mountain Home, our campus serves students in pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. Our small size means every child is known by name, every family is part of our school community, and every student receives the kind of individual attention that larger schools simply cannot provide. Our district covers a beautiful stretch of western Kerr County ranchland, and our families reflect the working ranch heritage of the Texas Hill Country. After completing sixth grade, our students transition to middle and high school in neighboring Ingram ISD, well prepared for the next chapter of their education.
